Never swim or go near a water hole like these. If you do see one of these, you’re too close, and you better paddle your butt off to get away!

Ladybower Dam

bellmouth spillway shafts on ladybower dam. The overflow water from the resovouir flows through the ‘bellmouth’ shafts into the river derwent and from there on to the river trent.

This is the east spillway shaft at Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District. The top is around 25 metres across. Once the reservoir is full (6,300,000,000 gallons of water) the excess water drains away through two of these enormous spillway shafts.
